HCI 530 covered theoretical and practical issues for designing for mobile devices, including design strategy, patterns and research. Over the 10 week course I built an app in Figma, a new program for me, applying coursework to create a useful and enjoyable experience that considers the unique capabilities and constraints of mobile platforms. Considerations included responsive mobile design, iOS vs. Android design rules, accessible design and more.
FINAL APP FOR HCI 531
BUSINESS CHALLENGE: Spotify Wrapped, the music app’s annual recap of a user’s content consumption, has become a U.S. phenomenon. In the age of data humans love to measure our interests and share them with others. From Strava (fitness) to Good Reads (reading), today there is a wide variety of programs to track and share our hobbies. But one popular group is left out – the crafters! As the popularity of crafting reaches historic highs, it’s time for a data-driven platform dedicated to the practice.
SOLUTION: Introducing Master Craftster, an app for arts and crafters to track and share the projects they create over the course of the year. They can share accomplishment stats (like how long something took), project photography, and engage with like-minded audiences.
In short: Think Strava for crafting.
RESULTS: I received an A on the project and positive feedback from my peers. The project is viable in today's market and the design presents opportunities for continued growth and development.
